Huaypo Lagoon

 

The Laguna de Huaypo is a beautiful lagoon with crystal clear waters, located in the provinces of Urubamba and Anta.
It is located one hour from the city of Cusco, this beautiful lagoon is home to a great variety of fish and birds, it is the habitat of trout and silverside, which are cared for and raised by the inhabitants as their main economic sustenance.
The best time to visit the lagoon is after the rainy season, starting in April, when the landscape is green and the lagoon an intense blue.
 
Legends of the Laguna de Huaypo
Legend has it that in times of plenty, those who lived near the lake were wealthy people. One day the inhabitants of the area celebrated a wedding in which they had spent a lot of money, at one point a humble old man approached the cook, she took pity on the old man and offered him his food. The old man decided to launch his anger against all those who were celebrating the wedding and only saved the cook and her young son, they only had to flee without looking back, but when she was far away she did not heed the warnings and turned to stone. Today it is called the Enchanted Ñusta, whose gaze is lost in the Laguna de Huaypo.
 
Another well-known legend says that the Sun God asked Manco Capac that his twin sons accompany him at sunset. When they went to look for them they discovered that the son, which further way had become the Laguna de Huaypo and the daughter in the Laguna de Piuray
 
Activities:
In the lagoon they can do fun activities such as bird watching and water sports such as kayaking, ATVs, biking and stand up paddle boarding.
